Wexton Meets with Local Stakeholders to Discuss District Funding Projects
Sterling, VA,
April 30, 2021
Washington, DC -- Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton (D-VA) met this week with county and town elected officials and other stakeholders to discuss local funding priorities for Virginia’s 10th District. Below are more details about the groups Wexton met with and the funding projects they discussed: Frederick Water Diehl Project Wexton met with Chuck DeHaven, Chair of the Frederick County Board of Supervisors, and representatives from Frederick Water to hear more about the project to improve water quality and increase capacity at the James H. Diehl Water Treatment Plant in Stephens City. The possibility of federal funding for the project would help Frederick Water offset the costs passed on to ratepayers. Waxpool Road/Loudoun County Parkway Intersection Improvements Representatives from the Loudoun County government met with Congresswoman Wexton to speak about the project to widen and improve the intersection at Waxpool Road and Loudoun County Parkway. Officials who joined the meeting included Phyllis Randall, Chair of the Board of Supervisors, Supervisor Sylvia Glass, County Administrator Tim Hemstreet, and Joe Kroboth, Director of Transportation and Capital Infrastructure. Prince William County Police Department Study on Use of Force, De-escalation, and Other Policies Officials from Prince William County, including Ann Wheeler, Chair of the Board of Supervisors, and County Executive Chris Martino, joined Congresswoman Wexton to discuss projects for which the county is seeking federal funding. One such project is a proposed third-party evaluation of the County Police Department’s use of force policies, training programs, police culture, supervision, and de-escalation strategies and tactics. Manassas City Police Department Community-Support Program for Mental Health and Domestic Violence Services Wexton met with Manassas City Mayor Michelle Davis Younger, City Manager Pat Pate, Deputy City Manager Bryan Foster, and Manassas Police Chief Doug Keen this week regarding federal support for a project to establish a community-support program within the Police Department to better connect those facing mental health challenges and domestic violence with community services. This new program, along with the improved outcomes it can deliver, would reduce the amount of police interventions in these situations in the community. Manassas City Water Transmission Main The Manassas officials also spoke with Wexton about a project to improve a dated water transmission main. The main, which is over 50 years old and lacks cathodic protection making it susceptible to degradation and failure, transports water eight miles from a treatment plan to support the City’s 42,000 residents as well as businesses and industries. Fairfax Community Services Board Data Management Project During a meeting with Fairfax County officials, Congresswoman Wexton heard about a funding request to support the County’s Community Services Board’s (CSB) overhaul of its data management and reporting system. The project would create a secure, online data collection system which would allow all CSBs in the region including Alexandria, Arlington, Fairfax-Falls Church, Loudoun, and Prince William to reduce the personnel resources dedicated to data management and improve services. Wexton announced the final list of projects her office is submitting for consideration to the House Appropriations Committee’s FY2022 Community Project Funding program this week. ### |
