Wexton Announces Over $1.2 Million in Federal Funding for Local Airports

Washington, DC – Today, Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton (D-VA) announced $1,206,466 in total federal funding for improvements and upgrades to Leesburg Executive Airport and Warrenton-Fauquier Airport. The Airport Improvement Program is delivering $440,893 for Leesburg Airport and $365,573 for Warrenton-Fauquier Airport for upkeep and repairs of key infrastructure. Additionally, Warrenton-Fauquier airport is receiving a $400,000 Airport Improvement Grant, funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, to support key upgrade and expansion projects at the airport.

“Our local airports are key to regional travel, our economy, and the continued growth and success of our local communities,” said Congresswoman Wexton. “I’m proud that this new federal funding will enable Leesburg Airport and Warrenton-Fauquier Airport to make much-needed upgrades and improvements to their infrastructure that will ensure safety and success now and into the future.”

  • $440,893 in Airport Improvement Program funding for the Town of Leesburg to rehabilitate 5,500 feet of existing paved runway at Leesburg Airport to maintain the structural integrity and minimize foreign object debris to extend its useful life.
  • $365,573 in Airport Improvement Program funding for Fauquier County to rehabilitate 5,000 feet of the existing paved taxiway and lighting at Warrenton-Fauquier Airport to maintain the structural integrity of the pavement and to minimize foreign object debris to extend its useful life.
  • $400,000 Airport Improvement Grant for Fauquier County to update the existing airport layout plan at Warrenton-Fauquier Airport with master plan narrative.

The Airport Improvement Program (AIP) is administered by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Federal Aviation Administration, and serves to modernize airport infrastructure by constructing new airport facilities, repairing old runways and taxiways, maintaining airfield lighting and signage, and delivering modern equipment needed to operate and maintain airports.

The Airport Infrastructure Grant (AIG) program is administered by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Federal Aviation Administration with the objective of enhancing the country’s airport infrastructure. The program was established by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which provided it with $15 billion in funding that can be invested in runways, taxiways, safety, and sustainability projects, as well as terminal, airport-transit connections, and roadway projects.
