Washington, DC – Today, Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton (D-VA) announced $71.7 million in new grants to strengthen electrical grid resilience and reliability in Virginia: $38.1 million for clean, reliable energy through the Rappahannock Electric Cooperative; and $33.6 million for grid management and decarbonization through Dominion Energy Virginia. The funding for both programs is being provided by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and distributed through the Grid Resilience and Innovation Partnerships (GRIP) Program. “Our Bipartisan Infrastructure Law is delivering the largest investment in Virginia’s electrical grid in history,” said Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton. “This long overdue federal funding will modernize our grid and adapt our commonwealth’s electrical infrastructure to meet the energy demands of the 21st century and threats like climate change. I look forward to working with local leaders to continue making sure all Virginians see the benefits of this once-in-a-generation effort to restore and rebuild our nation’s critical infrastructure.” The GRIP Program is administered by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) with the objective of enhancing the country’s electrical grid. The new federal funding for both the Rappahannock Electric Cooperative and Dominion Energy Virginia is a part of a larger $3.5 billion initiative from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law that is supporting 58 projects to enhance grid resilience and reliability across 44 states. ### |
