Rep. Wexton Joins New Democrat Coalition Workforce Development and National Security Task Forces

Washington, DC – Today, Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton (D-VA) announced that she will be joining two New Democrat Coalition (NDC) Policy Task Forces: the Workforce Development Task Force and the National Security Task Force.

“In Congress and during my time in the Virginia state Senate, I have a history of success working across the aisle to get results for my district,” said Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton. “The New Democrat Coalition is all about bipartisanship and delivering on the issues that matter most to American families, which is why I’m excited by the opportunity to join the Workforce Development and National Security Task Forces to develop and advocate for common sense legislation that supports Virginia workers and businesses and that defends our country and our values abroad. I look forward to this new opportunity to be a voice for Virginians at the table where policy is made.”

“The New Democrat Coalition is the ‘Can-Do Caucus,’ and our Members are the true policy entrepreneurs in Congress,” said NDC Chair Annie Kuster. “We know that a closely divided Congress presents a real opportunity for bipartisan progress. That’s why each of these nine policy task forces reflects areas where we can work across the aisle to deliver legislative wins for our constituents, including on the issues of workforce development, housing, mental health care, and more. Last Congress, Democrats had the same slim margin Republicans hold now – and just as we did last year, New Dems will advocate for smart policies to generate new ideas and create new opportunities for hardworking Americans. We’re excited for the work to come.”

The Workforce Development Task Force will develop and advance policies that prepare and support American workers for the jobs of today and tomorrow. The Task Force will advance policies to expand access to quality and affordable child care and paid leave to help more parents enter the workforce, reform our immigration system to ensure a strong economy, and ensure every worker has access to the education and training necessary to prepare them for jobs in their communities.

The National Security Task Force will advance strong national security policies that keep our country and allies safe. As a Member of this policy task force, Rep. Wexton is laser-focused on helping the U.S. succeed and lead in the 21st century and will work to ensure New Dems’ priorities are reflected in the annual National Defense Authorization Bill.

The New Democrat Coalition is made up of nearly 100 members who are committed to breaking through the gridlock in Washington, D.C. to produce real solutions to real issues Americans are facing.
