Wexton Welcomes Major Shipment of Baby Formula at Dulles Airport Alongside FLOTUS and U.S. Surgeon General

Sterling, VA – Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton (D-VA) joined the First Lady of the United States Jill Biden and U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy at Dulles Airport yesterday to welcome a shipment of infant formula as part of the “Operation Fly Formula” to address recent supply chain challenges.

“It was great to be with First Lady Jill Biden and Surgeon General Vivek Murthy at Dulles as more than 100,000 pounds of baby formula arrived here in Virginia-10 to restore critically-needed supply for families across the country,” said Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton. “I’ve been hard at work to deliver the support Virginia families need as they face challenges getting formula right now, including directly connecting constituents with federal resources and supporting legislation and funding to ease the burden of this shortage and get more formula on store shelves ASAP. ”

“I’m here today to say to parents: You aren’t alone. At the highest levels of Joe’s Administration, he and his team understand what you’re going through, and they are finding solutions. And they won’t stop until all parents can get the formula all their children need,” said First Lady Jill Biden.

This was the second Operation Fly Formula shipment, which delivered more than 100,000 pounds of formula – equating to an additional 1 million 8-ounce bottles of Nestlé’s Gerber Good Start® Extensive HA® infant formula.

Following the shutdown of a major formula manufacturing plant in Sturgis, Michigan, earlier this year which – compounded by pandemic-related supply chain challenges – has led to shortages in many parts of the country, Congress along with the Biden administration have taken action to restore supply and address disruptions.

Last week, Wexton voted to pass legislation to grant emergency authority to the WIC program to manage supply chain disruptions and recalls as well as emergency funding to address the current shortage and prevent one like it from ever happening again. Additionally, Wexton’s office has been in touch with constituents who are facing challenges accessing the formula their babies need, and has directly assisted with connecting those constituents to resources at the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to get the supply their families need.

Parents who are having trouble finding the formula they need can visit the HHS resource page at hhs.gov/formula.
