Wexton Announces New Constituent Casework Milestones: 6,500 Cases Closed and Over $11 Million Returned to Taxpayers

Sterling, VA -- Today, Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton (D-VA) announced new constituent casework milestones as she approaches the end of her third year serving the people of Virginia’s 10th District in Congress. Wexton’s team has successfully closed 6,542 constituent cases, returned a total of $11,238,581 owed to taxpayers by the federal government, and responded to more than 175,412 calls and emails.

“Since coming to Congress, my office has helped thousands of constituents get the help they need from federal agencies and secured millions in benefits owed back to taxpayers in our district,” said Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton. “Constituent services are one of the most direct ways I can impact the lives of those I serve in Congress, and I’m proud that my team is second to none. To anyone in Virginia-10 seeking assistance with veterans’ benefits, Social Security, Medicare, IRS, or other federal programs, I encourage you to reach out to my office and we’ll do whatever we can to help.”

Congresswoman Wexton’s staff is able to help constituents retrieve benefits they are owed by the federal government and get assistance with federal agencies, including Social Security and Medicare, Veterans’ benefits, IRS issues, passports and visas, small business assistance, and federal grants and loans. Wexton’s office has also helped constituents and small businesses in the district navigate federal agency programs during the COVID-19 pandemic on issues including securing their tax returns and stimulus payments, assisting those stuck abroad during travel restrictions, and connecting those who were put out of work with Virginia unemployment resources.

Below are a few testimonials from Virginia-10 constituents who have been assisted by Congresswoman Wexton’s team over the past year:

“I am very happy with the way your office dealt [with] my case. The response was very prompt from your team. I wish I had reached out to you earlier. It would [have] saved many months of anxiety that our family had to go through.”

– Debjyoti from Ashburn, who sought help with a naturalization oath ceremony that was pending for 16 months

“It has been 4 months since my income tax return 2020 was filed electronically. I could not get an answer from IRS as to why the delay, just that I would have to keep checking the website. Not even why refunds are taking so long. Jennifer Wexton's office made an inquiry as soon as I contacted them and obtained information right away as to when my refund would arrive.”

– Bertha from Manassas, who received assistance with an income tax refund

“I was having great difficulty reaching SSA to obtain Social Security cards for Afghan families that we are resettling in Berryville. After a week, I was so frustrated that I called Congresswoman Wextons office. I gave [Rep. Wexton’s office] docs and info on family, she had results in 24 hours! This is not my first issue and J-Wex has never let me down!”

– Ellie from Clarke County, who reached out about Social Security for an Afghan refugee family

If constituents can't get an answer from a federal agency in a timely fashion, or if they feel they have been treated unfairly, Congresswoman Wexton’s office may be able to help resolve a problem or get constituents the information they need. While Wexton’s office cannot always guarantee constituents a favorable outcome, staff will always work to ensure constituents receive a fair and timely response to their problem.

Constituents can learn more about how to request assistance with a federal agency here. Wexton’s offices are available by phone any weekday during business hours or via email using the contact page on her website.
