Wexton Statement on President Biden’s Joint Address to Congress
Washington,
April 28, 2021
Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton (D-VA) released the following statement on President Joe Biden’s first joint address to Congress tonight: “President Biden spoke powerfully tonight about the remarkable progress we have made in our fight against COVID and presented a bold plan to invest in American families and jobs which will enable our country to emerge stronger on the other side of this pandemic. “In the first 100 days, I have been proud to work with President Biden, Vice President Harris, and their administration to enact historic legislation to confront an unprecedented crisis and make our families, small businesses, and communities whole again. It is thanks to the American Rescue Plan that the light at the end of this long tunnel is growing brighter each and every day. “The President is right in that we have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to build back from this crisis better than where we were before. I’m pleased to see his American Families Plan proposal make important and necessary investments in our kids and families that will help every American rocked by this crisis land on their feet. Along with the American Jobs Plan to rejuvenate our economy with a long-overdue and bold investment in infrastructure and new jobs, we can put our country on a path to sustained economic success that does not leave any family behind.” Wexton invited Caoilinn McLane, a 19-year-old constituent and fierce advocate for childhood cancer funding, to be her virtual guest for the joint address. Caoilinn is battling leukemia and has joined Wexton in pushing for the passage of her bipartisan Gabriella Miller Kids First Research Act 2.0 to increase funding for childhood cancer research. ### |
