Following the passage H.R. 8, the Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2019, Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton issued the following statement:
“Today, the House took a historic first step in pursuit of our bold gun safety agenda. Passing H.R. 8, the Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2019, will save lives and make our communities safer.
“For years, our country has suffered from a gun violence epidemic that has terrorized our schools, our places of worship, and nearly every public space in which we exist. After countless mass shootings and daily incidents of heartbreaking gun violence, Congress has finally honored these victims with meaningful action.
“We may not be able to stop every tragedy, but it is our responsibility to fight our hardest to prevent every act of gun violence that we can: to raise awareness, seek solutions, and pass legislation that will save lives. Today’s historic vote was just the first step in a long fight to end gun violence.”
