Wexton Announces $1 Million FEMA Grant for Loudoun County COVID Vaccination Efforts
Washington,
February 1, 2021
Sterling, VA -- Today, Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton (D-VA), member of the House Appropriations Committee, announced that Loudoun County is receiving a $1,022,773.00 grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to support COVID-19 vaccine distribution and administration. “I’m so pleased that Loudoun County is receiving federal funding to get more shots into the arms of residents and bolster our community’s vaccination efforts,” said Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton. “Making vaccines more available and accessible to Americans is one of our most important tools to ending the COVID-19 pandemic. Federal support is essential to distribute vaccines in the most efficient, equitable, and expedited way possible. I was proud to support a bipartisan deal at the end of last year to provide robust funding for vaccine administration efforts, and I’m working hard now to advance our next rescue package through Congress.” As part of the federal government’s efforts to accelerate COVID vaccination operations across the country, FEMA is providing financial assistance and federal supplies and staff to states, tribes, and territories to help get more Americans vaccinated. The federal assistance will help Loudoun County provide equipment and supplies for vaccine administration as well as other materials needed for vaccine storage, handling, and distribution. Under executive orders recently signed by President Biden, states and localities are eligible to receive funding to aid their COVID response efforts in advance rather than as reimbursements, at a 100% federal cost share. In December 2020, Congresswoman Wexton voted to pass a bipartisan COVID relief deal which included $29 billion for vaccine procurement and distribution. ### |
