Rep. Wexton Statement on New Report Showing Extent of Forced Labor in Xinjiang Cotton Production
Washington,
December 14, 2020
In response to a new report from the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation providing new evidence of systemic forced labor in Xinjiang cotton production, implicating all global supply chains that involve Xinjiang cotton, Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton (D-VA) released the following statement: “Cotton supply chains in Xinjiang are corrupt down to the root, and all cotton coming out of the region must be considered tainted by forced labor. “This report underscores the need for greater scrutiny of the goods and materials that are sourced from Xinjiang. We need serious, sweeping policies to ensure that products made or originated by forced labor are not allowed to make their way to U.S. markets. “The Senate Majority Leader is blocking two House-passed bills that would immediately address this problem. Senator McConnell must bring these bills to the floor immediately and stop blocking bipartisan efforts to bring accountability.” ### |
