ICYMI: Rep. Wexton Participates in Substance Abuse Roundtable in Winchester

Washington, D.C. ‒ On Thursday, Representative Jennifer Wexton (D-VA) joined the Northern Shenandoah Valley Substance Abuse Coalition for their monthly meeting, speaking about the importance of increased federal funding to addiction and treatment programs in the region. The roundtable consisted of treatment providers, school administrators, law enforcement, prosecutors, and recovering addicts.

Wexton cited her experience with the region’s efforts to combat the opioid epidemic as a State Senator and praised the success she’s witnessed, saying, “I got to see the progression of how we came to view the addiction as an illness and less as treating it in purely punitive matter which does not work. That’s been encouraging and seeing what you guys do here in the [Shenandoah] Valley is amazing.”

The Winchester Star covered the Congresswoman’s visit to the roundtable. You can read their recap here.
