Today, Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton (D-VA) released the following statement after the House of Representatives passed  H.R. 790, the Federal Civilian Workforce Pay Raise Fairness Act:

“I am proud to be an original co-sponsor of  H.R. 790, a bill that gives a long overdue pay raise to our civil servants. Federal employees are the people who make sure Social Security checks are mailed on time each month. They are scientists researching cures for cancer. They are tour guides in our national parks, FBI agents investigating criminal activity, and air traffic controllers and TSA agents keeping our skies safe.

We saw during the shutdown how important every dollar of every paycheck is for federal employees to pay their rent or mortgage, afford childcare or tuition, pay their student loans, and even to feed their families. This legislation will provide them with greater economic security and the pay raise they deserve.”
