In response to the Trump administration issuing a final rule that rolls back Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act, which protects transgender individuals seeking health care service,  Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton (VA-10) issued the following statement: 

"During a pandemic when access to affordable, quality health care is absolutely crucial, the Trump administration is fighting to rescind protections that prohibit health care providers from discriminating against or denying care to transgender people. 

“Transgender individuals already face unique barriers and discrimination in accessing affordable health care. Make no mistake, this cruel policy would do nothing more than give health care providers a license to discriminate against transgender Americans and put lives at risk."
