Wexton Statement on President Biden’s Budget to Invest in American Families and Future
Washington,
March 9, 2023
Washington, DC – Today, Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton (D-VA) issued the following statement on President Biden’s newly released budget. Wexton is a member of the House Appropriations Committee and the House Budget Committee: “President Biden has unveiled a robust and sensible budget that meets the needs of families in every community across America in this moment and builds on the historic progress of the past two years to bring down costs, create jobs, boost business, and support a strong economic recovery. “This budget takes on some of the greatest challenges facing families, including putting forward a roadmap to fully fund Medicare without cutting benefits or raising taxes on working families. I’m also pleased to see bold proposals to extend savings on lower prescription drug costs to more Americans and build on the historic investments we made in U.S. manufacturing that will create new good-paying jobs here at home. “Meanwhile, I continue to be disappointed that we still have not seen any concrete proposals from Congressional Republicans because they know their policies to slash Medicare and Social Security and give tax breaks to the ultra-wealthy and big corporations are wildly unpopular with the majority of Americans. As a member of the Appropriations Committee and the Budget Committee, it is my hope that we can come together in a bipartisan way to deliver for families and ensure a strong and stable financial future for the country.” ### |
