Washington, DC – Today, Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) announced the appointment of Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton (D-VA) to the House Appropriations Committee for the 118th Congress. Wexton also served on the Committee during the 117th Congress. The Committee is one of the most powerful committees in Congress, overseeing 12 spending bills that fund most of the functions of the federal government. “I’m honored to be reappointed to the House Appropriations Committee and continue bringing home federal resources to Virginia’s 10th District,” said Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton. “I’m proud of the work I’ve done in one term on the Committee, including delivering over $31 million for key community projects that are already having an impact in every corner of our district. I’ll continue to be a voice for our community as the Committee works in a bipartisan way to craft an appropriations package that maintains robust funding for critical social service programs, meets the needs of every family, and builds on our historic economic progress.” During her service on the Committee last Congress, Wexton delivered on priorities for her district and Virginia such as funding childhood cancer research, enhancing mental health resources for U.S. Capitol Police, aiding Uyghurs and other persecuted minorities fleeing human rights abuses in China, and supporting the development of returnship programs within the federal workforce. Additionally, Wexton secured $31.3 million for community projects in the district that are investing in local infrastructure to reduce traffic and improve safety, supporting local law enforcement and resources for those in crisis, and expanding access to affordable child care and supporting the needs of early childhood educators. ### |
