Rep. Wexton Announces Historic Economic Growth In Virginia-10

Putting People Over Politics, Wexton Has Voted to Invest in U.S. Workers

Sterling, VA – Today, Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton (D-VA) announced a new report from the U.S. Congress Joint Economic Committee that shows the policies she has championed over the last two years have created 20,500 better-paying jobs in Virginia’s 10th District since President Biden came into office.

“From day one, my priority has been to improve the lives of Virginia’s families, and I’m proud that this Congress I’ve helped deliver on major legislation to do just that by supporting our local economy and creating good paying jobs here in our communities,” said Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton. “From the Infrastructure Law to the Inflation Reduction Act, we’re investing in American businesses and workers and seeing historically strong job creation. There’s more work to do to bring down costs and build on the progress we’ve made to recover and grow our economy, and that’s exactly what I’m fighting to do right now in Congress.”

The new report from the Joint Economic Committee shows:

  • Historically Strong Job Creation: Data shows that 20,500 jobs have been created in VA-10 since President Biden came into office. 185,600 jobs have been created statewide.
  • Clean Energy Jobs: Last year, 55,000 workers in VA-10 were employed in clean energy and emerging sectors of the economy, and 36,000 more worked in occupations that will be increasingly in demand as the United States transitions to cleaner, more secure energy.
  • Manufacturing Jobs: As of August, 100 new manufacturing jobs have been created in VA-10 since President Biden came into office. Statewide, more than 1,800 manufacturing jobs have been created.
  • Business Growth: Last year, 13,900 applications to start a new business were filed in VA-10, up from 10,100 pre-pandemic. There were 130,500 business applications filed in Virginia, up from 80,600 before the pandemic.

Among the many job-creating measures that Wexton has helped champion are the American Rescue Plan which put shots in arms, got kids back in schools, and jumpstarted our economic recovery; the CHIPS and Science Act, which fixes our supply chains and makes more critical goods in America; the Inflation Reduction Act, which includes historic investments in clean, secure American energy; and the Infrastructure Law, which is rebuilding our roads, bridges, and transit systems, bringing broadband to every community, and replacing lead pipes and cleaning up drinking water.
