Wexton Announces $232 Million for Virginia Transit Projects from Bipartisan Infrastructure Law
Washington,
April 7, 2022
Washington, DC – Today, Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton (D-VA) announced the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law she helped pass will invest $232,426,060 this year to upgrade and expand local transit in Virginia. “I fought hard to pass our Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill into law, and I'm proud that Virginia is now seeing the benefits of this once-in-a-generation plan,” said Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton. “With this funding, we're delivering the investments needed to upgrade and expand our region's transit network so that every Virginian can rely on public transportation to get to work and travel with their family. I look forward to the transformative impacts this law will have on our local transit for years to come." This investment will allow local transit authorities to buy new buses and railcars, address repair backlogs, modernize fleets, and transition to new technologies that reduce carbon emissions. These funds will also create more good-paying manufacturing jobs through Buy America requirements that apply to steel, iron, and other materials necessary for transit projects.
