Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton Celebrates Transgender Visibility Week

Today, Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton commemorated Transgender Visibility Week, an international recognition of the strength and pride in the transgender community.

Members of Congress were invited to display the transgender flag during the week of March 25th through March 29th in celebration of Transgender Visibility Day on March 31.

Congresswoman Wexton has displayed the transgender flag outside of her Congressional office since her swearing in.

"When I was sworn into Congress, I hung the transgender flag in front of my office as a small gesture of solidarity with a community that deserves to know it has support here in the halls of Congress," said Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton. "Now, for Transgender Visibility Week, I'm so pleased to see transgender flags have been hung outside of offices all throughout Capitol Hill. Visibility is just the first step--passing meaningful legislation like the Equality Act, that will provide critical protections for the transgender community, is next."

Yesterday, Congresswoman Wexton voted in favor of H. Res. 124 to reject the Trump-Pence Administration's transgender military ban. Following yesterday's vote, Congresswoman Wexton gave remarks at a press conference with the Congressional Transgender Equality Task Force and the National Center for Transgender Equality.
